Election update: Monday, Nov 9, midmorning.
Finally got a decent full night of sleep last night. Still had vote-counting and electoral math sneak into dreams, but physically it does feel like a new day. How about you?
I’ve got a list of topics I’ll cover yet this week.
This morning, I’ve got two things on my mind:
1. Does Trump need to concede? and
2. Is Biden’s electoral win really secure from shenanigans?
GEORGIA SENATE: A future update will focus entirely on the two Jan 5 Senate runoff elections in Georgia that will decide control of the US Senate.
Election Update: 5pm Saturday Nov 7, 2020:
Joseph R. Biden is the President-Elect of the United States of America.
Kamala Harris is the Vice-President-Elect of the United States of America.
10:30 a.m. — Associated Press.
The last few days have been a very long year. I’m celebrating and relaxing today and tonight, and I hope you are as well. Who am I kidding? I am sure you are celebrating and exhaling as well.
More on the next work ahead, tomorrow. Well done, Americans.
MORNING UPDATE, Sat Nov 7:
I believe that the Associated Press will finally call the race today given the numbers as they stand, summarized below.
President-Elect Biden’s team quietly celebrated Friday because they became certain of what I said as early as Wednesday morning — that the race is won, with sufficient margins in every state needed to exceed 270, and with margins that should hold to reach 306 or more.
For this morning, I won’t speculate why the AP and others won’t call the race. Their hesitation has moved from frustrating to being on the edge of irresponsible. It’s…
It’s good to be in a Country with President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.
VP-elect Harris is the first woman elected to serve in the White House, and the first woman of color as well. It’s a historic week.
KEY TAKEAWAY: We are moving forward in the process of a peaceful transition of power from the Trump-Pence Administration to the Biden-Harris Administration. Regardless of rhetoric and bombast, the nation is moving forward as the Constitution requires and as our democracy demands.
KEY MESSAGES: President-Elect Joseph Biden has secured a clear victory from the American people evidenced by three facts:
Good morning y’all.
[UPDATE: THE FIRST MAJOR DECISION DESK HAS CALLED IT AT 7:50am CT: JOE BIDEN IS THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.]
Very quick update on progress as of 8am CT on Friday Nov 6:
BIDEN IS NOW IN THE LEAD IN PA by 5,587 votes. That will keep growing all day until the final votes are counted.
BIDEN IS NOW IN THE LEAD IN GA by 1,097 votes. That lead will keep growing until about 5k — 6k votes, until a few final arriving overseas and military ballots arrive today and are counted tonight…
Late night update on Thurs Nov 5.
JOE BIDEN IS 24,381 VOTES AWAY FROM OFFICIALLY BEING THE PRESIDENT-ELECT. And he will get those votes tonight in GA or PA, or both.
I cracked open the whiskey by the fire with excellent fried chicken and cheddar grits — maybe a subconscious ode to Georgia? Well, I did play Georgia on my Mind on repeat, loudly (sorry neighbors!) so maybe it was more conscious than not.
As I said earlier today, while we are growing tired of waiting for results, this is a healthy and normal process of counting votes carefully. Speed…
I pulled down the 12-year scotch that’s been awaiting this moment tonight for a week.
In moments, Joe Biden should take the lead in Georgia, and soon after in Pennsylvania making him almost certainly the President-Elect of the United States.
We’ve all been waiting for this moment for 48 months. Soak it up. Soak it in. YOU did this. YOU persisted. YOU spoke up. YOU woke up. YOU called. YOU spoke your truths. YOU cried in shock and horror, then picked yourself up and got going again. YOU texted. YOU turned the other cheek. YOU voted.
WE will need to…
Midday update Thurs Nov 5:
Takeaway: Joe Biden will be the Next President of the United States.
Key Messages: Count all votes cast. Stay patient. Stay calm.
Our democracy is working — and it’s a joy to behold! Nearly 160 Million Americans have cast ballots to determine our next President. Every single one of those legally cast ballots — cast by 8pm on Election Day — deserves to be counted this week. And that’s precisely what is happening.
Let’s take a step back for a moment.
(No, not all the way to the cliff. No reason for that. We are…
Good morning all! It’s a bright sunshiny day here in Minnesota — shirt sleeve weather on a November morning. Climate change, anyone?
I’ve got work obligations this morning, and am aiming for a more robust midday update on vote counting. Things continue to point toward today being the day that Joe Biden becomes the Next President of the United States, with:
AZ nearing completion and few paths remaining for sufficient Trump votes among remaining ballots to overcome Biden’s lead.
NV announcing almost all of their final ballots midday today from Biden-friendly areas and mail ballots that should slightly increase Biden’s…
6 Challenges Facing the U.S.
WARNING: Many of you have commented on my grounded optimism in prior posts. This post is a bit more sober — even with the whiskey reference at the end.
As we’ve all heard many times, winning the 2020 general election is just the beginning of 6 distinct challenges we face in saving American democracy — not the end.
You may find it helpful to know the mountains ahead of us on the trail. Identifying them clearly has certainly helped me steel my nerves and my resolve.
It has also been helpful for me to remember…
